Bungle, at a tender 24 years of age, is the brightest thing to venture out of Brazil in almost a decade. Following in the footsteps of other legendary Brazilian dance acts DJ Patife and DJ Marky, Bungle is on course to have the same impact as his predecessors, if not more, on the global stage. With a background deeply rooted in music and creativity, Bungle has been involved in the scene since the age of 7. His early influences included Deep Purple and Yes! and contributed heavily to his first signed and sealed album deal with the band “Shine” in 2002. It was around this time that Bungle first heard Drum & Bass via a mix CD by DJ Patife. This relatively new and exciting genre provided Bungle with his musical inspration and a viable means of expressions for his many ideas. After a year’s solid research and hard work, he was ready with his first release, which was used in a compilation by Ramilson Maia. From here the floodgates opened and Bungle began working on some extremely fruitful collaborations with the likes of Mikrob, Ney Faustini and Vinicius Vandré, earning himself 12-inch releases on labels such as Nu Horizons, Timeless and Innerground. The wealth of praise and compliments from the Drum & Bass peerage was surprising, but not wholly unexpected, and served as a platform to move onwards and upwards. And in 2005, all the previous hard work paid off when Bungle and DJ Marky met and embarked on a remarkable partnership, which continues to this day. The duo began working on a number of projects and remixes, and refused to limit themselves to the DnB genre. The offers came flooding in from the likes of Ed Rush & Optical, Aquasky and Q Project amongst others to give their classics a fresh, Brazilian style facelift, and consequently Bungle found himself well and truly on the map. Possibly one of the defining moments at this time was the collaboration with DJ Marky for the Innerground imprint entitled “No Time 2 Love”. This track served as a benchmark for what Bungle was capable of and subsequent releases included remixes of Ghostface Killah & Ne-Yo’s “Back Like That” and the massive 2007 smash “Open Your Eyes” by Snow Patrol. Taking these two rather unconventional tracks and giving them a more than credible DnB slant, only went to show Bungle’s appreciation for other genres and his ability to make almost anything a viable remix opportunity. However, being a more than competent producer does not always mean that you have what it takes to bring your music to the masses or the dancefloor, and in March of 2007 Bungle undertook his first tour outside of South America. The tour was aimed at promoting his debut album “Down To Earth” (CIA Records) but was also an outstanding opportunity to show everyone exactly what could and should be done when examining a dancefloor. Needless to say, the tour went extremely well. Every venue and promoter was excited and awe struck by Bungle’s technical capabilities and extended return invitations to venues such as Roxy in Austria and the mighty Fabric in London. His brief touring career so far has yielded some other-worldly opportunities. He has played with the likes of Goldie, TC, Commix, Zinc, Lemon D and London Elektricity and taken in the sights and sounds of Vienna, London, Paris, Brighton, Bristol, Skopje and Leipzig. Recognising that not everyone can make it to a nightclub, Bungle also emphatically serves his public with radio appearances on BBC Asian Network, BBC Radio 1Xtra and Ministry Of Sound Radio with Nookie. As well as his European and other touring commitments, Bungle has never lost sight of the fact that he has a massive home market to work with. In recent years he has become a regular participator on DJ Marky’s Terremoto Radio show for Energia 97FM as well as his regular club night “VIBE” at Lov.e in Sao Paulo, and has also had the opportunity to play at the 2006 and 2007 editions of Skolbeats Festival, one of the largest open air festivals on the planet. Plans for 2008 and beyond are beginning to take shape for Bungle now with a string of new releases coming on labels such as Liq-Weed Ganja, a Tru Playaz sister label and a forthcoming UK and European tour. The future is bright, the future is Bungle.
